Calling the Ancestors with Yule Danu Emerson

The size and scale of change that we require must be accompanied by healing of equal size and scale. This kind of healing happens, not alone, but in relationship with each other and with our whole, healed and elevated ancestors. And we are so fortunate to have Yule Danu Emerson as our guide. In this workshop, Yule teaches us to cast a special kind of circle, made up of those ancestors, standing shoulder to shoulder. They hold us as we journey down the ladder of our DNA to the places that need healing, to the places where healing reverberates across the whole of our lives, expanding all that is possible. And having worked this healing spell for ourselves, we turn together to the size and scale of healing that our country needs and we call our ancestors to lend their magic to this spell at this crossroads election.

In this working, we are held by the magic of Card 6 in the major Arcana: The Lovers. This is the turning point of our journey. After the challenge of the 5’s, we breathe. We receive. We open to the deep self-worth that makes loving relationship possible and the loving relationship that enables deep self worth. We know that to do this without calling in lineage would be like a tree trying to grow without roots. Even if you know nothing about your ancestors, this magic is available to you. If the records of your people were destroyed by the violence of colonialism, this healing can be yours. If your ancestors were perpetrators of this violence, your healing matters. We are weaving a web of wholeness and we call in those ancestors who are somewhere in every lineage: those who lived in right relationship to the land and can open the way for this spell of wholeness, now.

Yule Danu Emerson (she/her) I am a Mexican American Indian (Aztec, Apache, Cherokee) and Irish woman. My ancestors lived in California and New Mexico before it was part of the United States. I gives honor and thanks to the Band of Patwin tribes of the Wintun peoples who have remained committed to the stewardship of the land I reside on. I am blessed to share in their sacred circles.

I am an animist witch who is guided by allies, ancestors, intuition, and communion with the Divine. I find no conflicts in being a scientist and a witch. Instead, I use my understanding of energy and matter to affect change/magick. I began studying the Craft with my first teacher at 10 years old and have identified as a witch for 30+ years. Led to the Reclaiming tradition in 2005, I found my community of inclusion, openness, ecstatic rituals, and learning that was the yearning of my soul. My sacred fires of  animist healing, ancestral communion, priestessing community rituals, intimate deep magick, journeying to the underworld, death care, home funerals, and performing rites of passages.
